Orcas Island SD 137 Proposition 2

The Board of Directors of Orcas Island School District No. 137 adopted Resolution No. 2017-07 concerning a capital projects levy. The proposition authorizes the modernization and remodeling of District facilities, including athletic fields and facilities; and authorizes the following excess levies on all taxable property within the District: Collection Years Approximate Levy Rate/$1,000 Assessed Value Levy Amount 2018 $0.11 $227,000 2019 $0.11 $227,000 2020 $0.11 $227,000 2021 $0.10 $227,000 2022 $0.10 $227,000 2023 $0.10 $227,000 all as provided in District Resolution No. 2017-07. Explanatory StatementPassage of Proposition No. 2 would allow the levy of $227,000 in property taxes within Orcas Island School District No. 137 for collection in 2018, the levy of $227,000 for collection in 2019, the levy of $227,000 for collection in 2020, the levy of $227,000 for collection in 2021 the levy of $227,000 for collection in 2022, and the levy of $227,000 for collection in 2023, on all taxable property within the District, for the District’s Capital Projects Fund for modernization and remodeling of athletic fields and facilities. In accordance with Resolution No. 2017-07 approving this proposition, these taxes would be collected over six years and deposited in the District’s Capital Projects Fund to pay part of the costs to modernize its athletic fields and facilities through the repair and upgrade of existing site and structures and acquisition and installation of appropriate equipment, and to make other capital expenditures as found necessary by the Board of Directors. If authorized by the voters, and based on projected assessed valuation information, estimated levy rates per $1,000 of assessed value would be $0.11 (2018 collection); $0.11 (2019 collection); $0.11 (2020 collection); $0.10 (2021 collection); $0.10 (2022 collection), and $0.10 (2023 collection). The exact levy rate shall be adjusted based upon the actual assessed value of the property within the District at the time of the levy.
