Cowlitz Emergency Medical Service District 1 Proposition 1

The Board of County Commissioners of Cowlitz County, Washington adopted Resolution No. 17-054 referring to the voters the proposition described herein. This proposition allows the electors of Cowlitz County Emergency Medical Service District No. 1 to authorize a one-year excess levy to be made in 2017 for collection in 2018 in the total amount of $267,214, at an approximate tax rate of $1.40 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, with the proceeds of such excess levy to be used for maintenance, operation and staff salaries necessary to provide emergency medical and paramedic services for an estimated three (3) year period.Explanatory StatementCowlitz County Emergency Medical Service District No. 1 provides emergency medical and paramedic services to its citizens. The District has determined monies which will be available for 2017-2019 will be insufficient to provide medical and paramedic services, and meet the other general expenses of the District. The proposed ballot measure, if passed, would authorize for collection in 2018 a total amount of $267,214, at an approximate rate of $1.40 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. This levy is necessary for Cowlitz County Emergency Medical Service District No. 1 to continue to provide emergency medical services and paramedic response at the current level to the residents and businesses of Cowlitz County for an estimated three (3) year period. The proceeds of the levy will be used to pay the costs of personnel, training, equipment and supplies needed to provide emergency medical and paramedic services.
