Cleveland Library District Tax Levy (renewal and increase)
Issue 60 on the ballot. Ballot language: A renewal of 5.8 mills and an increase of 2 mills to constitute a tax for the benefit of the Cleveland Public Library for the purpose of current expenses at a rate not exceeding 7.8 mills for each $1 of valuation, which amounts to 78 cents for each $100 of valuation, for a continuing period of time, commencing in 2018, first due in calendar year 2019.A YES vote approves the property tax levy renewal and increase.A NO vote rejects the property tax levy renewal and increase.A majority affirmative vote is necessary for passage.LEAGUE EXPLANATION: The proposed tax renewal and increase is to update the library system's 24 aging buildings. The money will be used for roofing, restrooms and vestibules--not for increased staff hours. The owner of a $100,000 home is currently paying $178 to the library district. This levy would continue that levy and add $70 to the annual cost, making the annual cost $248.
