Whatcom Fire Protection District 21 Commissioner Position 5
6-year term; No salary. A Fire District is responsible for fire response and containment and for emergency medical services. The commission sets the general policies of the district, which are implemented by the hired professional fire chief and fire district personnel. One of commission's main duties is the adoption of the district's budget and proposal of any fire levies to be placed on the ballot to the people. The commission sets policies and approves all spending via the budget, whether for operations or capital items or public facility maintenance and improvements. The council also sets salaries for district employees.

Eight years as a Fire Commissioner. 30 years Federal law enforcement officer.
To continue the strong program the commissioners have built over the last few years. Also I have served in this position for 8 years.
1. The financial increases in insurance, employee payroll and equipment replacement cost.
2. The joining of Fire District 4 with District 21.
3. Continue to upgrade the department and firemen so the public receives the most for their tax dollars.
The departments financial increases are about 25% where the increase in tax revenue to support the department is about 2%.
I have the ability to work well with the other commissioners and I have several years experience in this position.
