The Common Council, the elected legislative body of the City, consists of 15 Council Members and a President. Established by the Dongan Charter on July 22, 1686, Albany’s Common Council convenes on the first and third Monday of every month to review and act on legislation and resolutions for the government of the City and the management of its business. The Council also holds public hearings to obtain citizens’ views and opinions on certain pieces of legislation.$20,314 2017 salary

Community Involvement He is a member of the Albany County Democratic Committee representing the 10th Ward. Mr. Anane is also a member of the Elks Lodge Fraternity,, Pine Hills Neighborhood Association, Minster of Hospitality for St. Vincent de Paul Church, and is Treasurer for The Obama Democracy Club of Albany.
A teacher, coach, and a dedicated public servant, Owusu focuses on doing all he can and is dedicated to empowering our children through education and athletics and our community through their participation in the political process.Mr. Anane graduated from the University at Albany, with BA in History. He was the Vice President of the University at Albany College Democrats, which was recognized as the Chapter of the Year by the Democratic National Committee.Mr. Anane is using his unique experiences and positive vision as a Teacher and grade school basketball coach at Woodland Hill Montessori, and as an Assistant Varsity Football Coach at Albany High School. Previously he worked for the New York State Senate with Sen. Kevin Parker and former Sen. Cecelia Tkaczyk .He is a member of the Albany County Democratic Committee representing the 10th Ward. Mr. Anane is also a member of the Elks Lodge Fraternity,Pine Hills Neighborhood Association, Minster of Hospitality for St. Vincent de Paul
Fight for increased safety resources in our Ward to address the rising crime in our neighborhoods. Work with City Hall to increase city contracting opportunities for city based businesses, with the objective of increasing employment opportunities. Work to repeal the unfair trash fee which unfairly burdens renters, and develop a more equitable and sustainable means of financing the city's waste management system. Stop city tax giveaways to big developers and outside corporations, and reinvest in our small business and local entrepreneurs to create local jobs in our neighborhoods. Restore free youth programs so that our children have access to positive and productive recreational activities when school is not in session. Foster a cooperative and collaborative relationship with the school district.
