Town where you live Pasco
Experience (300 characters max) I spent several years of my career representing local municipalities as an attorney and environmental consultant. Representative issues include: litigation, personnel matters, contracting, land use, and variety of other issues. I've sat at the table and counseled city councils.
I'm concerned that as we continue to grow, we're not considering our needs. Particularly, we're not preserving open lands and green spaces, we're not adequately funding our schools, the roadways are not being constructed to meet future needs (a two-lane road today will likely need to be a four-lane road within 10 years). We're not thinking of the future. We need proactive, not reactive growth. Several building remain unoccupied; we should seek to first fill, then build new.
The City has had several proposals from local groups who are seeking to care for the homeless. Unfortunately, many of these proposals have not been met with sufficient support. The City needs to consider these proposals more seriously and work with these groups to seek funding for homeless shelters.
We have an obligation to continue to take care of the aging population, although the issue is more appropriately debated (funding, rights, etc.) at the state and federal level. As a City, it is incumbent on Pasco to ensure that the the aging population has safe harbors and places to congregate. I believe such places are met with recreational facilities that provide classes to the elderly and open spaces that allow the aging to enjoy nature.
The City needs to be involved on both sides of the issue and should work with interest groups to offer services to immigrants to become naturalized/legal citizens while enforcing the law, and it should continue to do so. With that, I believe the City law enforcement officials should continue to enforce the law and work with other LEOs, while the City should work with community groups to assist those in need. Lastly, the City is obligated to uphold the law and must do so for all issues.
Racial segregation and related geographic self identification (i.e. east Pasco vs. west Pasco). Unsustainable growth. Unifying the City is the most urgent task.
Unifying the City is the most urgent task. Pasco has been divided for quite some time, and there have been social and legal issues that have added to that division. If we want to unite, we must heal and work together.
City staff is critical to decision-making, from the City Manager down. The City Council must rely on these individuals and data points provided by them to make informed decisions. I will utilize the City Staff to collect information to make informed decisions. I will work with the mayor to ensure our council is well represented in public space.
