We need to control the Urban Sprawl. Newer neighborhoods are being built and the current road infrastructures are being left un-maintained. Roads are becoming in poor condition, waste treatment plant needs to be able to handle the additional influx of liquid and solid waste. We need a water run off system that is capable of carrying more storm water than what it can carry now.
I used to be on the Housing and Community Development Advisory Committee (HCDAC) that dealt with providing dollars to non-profit agencies that works with the homeless and others, such as the Elijah House. Little homes can be built to combat homelessness. An article in YES! Magazine, Feb 20, 2014 was written about Quixote Village in Olympia and it can also work to solve the problem of homelessness here.
The commitment to our seniors are palliative. We need to ensure our meals on wheels program stays viable. We have seniors who are on a small fixed income. We need to find out who they are and what can be done to assist them if necessary. We can use the VIPS to do this.
Immigration issues are better left to the federal government. When illegal immigrants are arrested for a crime, ICE needs to be called immediately to remove the person. Illegal immigrants also place a strain and takes away city and state resources. Legal immigrants are quite the opposite. They add to the resources and the city can use these resources as required.
Other major issues are: Storm drainage, The Duportail Bridge Project and the development of Columbia Point South.
Water run off system has now jumped to number one in being the most urgent. We need to update the system to remedy the possibility of having another flood due to a storm. The second most urgent is the Duportail Bridge Project.
Over the many years of working with people of different stripes, I have had some, all you need to do is scratch their bellies to make them happy. Then there are some who believe, it is my way, or the highway. Exactly, how will I work with the Council and the City Manager is, to some degree, unknown.
