New Jersey has some of the highest property taxes in the nation. What, if anything, do you propose to lower property taxes?

New Jersey's state pension system has recently been named the worst-funded state retirement plan in the country and is arguably one of our largest financial problems. How do you propose to address our state's pension issues?

How can New Jersey meet our energy needs while protecting our environment? For example, would you support energy conservation, expansion of renewable energy projects, hydraulic fracturing, and pipelines, etc?

What would you do to promote job growth in our state?

Please indicate three additional state priority issues for you (not already listed in this questionnaire) and explain how you would address them.

Due to years of under-funding the school funding formula, the increases in property taxes is the result of a funding distribution that does not meet the changing needs of our almost 600 districts and students. To reduce the pressure of raising property taxes, I will call on the Governor to fully fund the school funding formula.

Another way to help people with their property taxes is to encourage local governments to engage in more shared services and municipal consolidation activities. Giving towns better tools to pursue shared services and municipal consolidation will ultimately rein in property taxes by reducing costly and unnecessary government services. I will support legislation that will promote shared services and municipal consolidation.
By law, the state is required to fund the pensions of public employees on a timely basis. The state's inability to fully fund the pension system has led to fiscal insolvency and unnecessary hardships for our public employees.

The discussion regarding public employee pension funding in this state has been littered with broken promises and irresponsibility. To fulfill its commitment to public employees and re-establish financial stability and long-term solvency, the state must make timely and consistent contributions to the pension system.
I will support initiatives that would promote energy efficiency and environmental sustainability throughout New Jersey. With the effects of climate change increasing every season and no help emerging from Washington, it is imperative that we protect our natural resources and begin decreasing our reliance on non-renewable sources of energy.

I will also support initiatives that would require new buildings to be constructed with renewable or sustainable energy features. New building structures are an opportunity to improve sustainability and energy performance. When constructing new buildings we must consider environmentally friendly designs and look at maximizing efficiency by reducing operation costs and lessening the environmental impact.
I will support initiatives to help promising small businesses grow and thrive in New Jersey. Small businesses are the lifeblood of communities throughout the state. By equipping small businesses with the tools they need to compete and reviewing regulations that would inhibit their development, our state can ensure that they stay and prosper here in New Jersey.

I will also support initiatives that will strengthen our institutions of higher education. Our state colleges and universities have a stake in the growth and prosperity of our state. We should tap into that wealth of knowledge and build a culture of innovation that will make not just our economy, but our higher education institutions and our industries stronger.
(1) Supporting New Jersey's Horse Racing Industry: Horse Racing is an invaluable resource for Monmouth County. I will support initiatives that will protect our horse racing industry.

(2) More Funding for Public Schools: Our public schools have been underfunded for far too long. I will support initiatives that will restore funding to our public schools

(3) Equal Pay for Women in the Workplace: Women earn approximately 21 percent less than men. I will support initiatives that will reduce the gender wage gap between men and women.
