Lewisboro’s issues are fundamentally economic. Our residents are keenly attuned to tax issues; equally important is maintenance of the infrastructure and programming that contribute to our vibrancy and appeal. I advocate a common-sense, fiscally conservative approach that includes adapting the Cornell study recommendations as to our roads, careful stewardship of our wild areas and lakes, standardized policies for leasing our facilities, and incentives for our hard-working volunteers.
Lewisboro’s residents – our seniors, those on fixed incomes, our volunteers and town employees – deserve the opportunity to remain here. We cannot allow the right to a home become an affectation of privilege; nor we can allow the phrase “fair and affordable housing” to suggest that our community condones exclusionary housing. Our challenge is to resist the jingoism, to continue to welcome all and celebrate our shared humanity, and to address these goals unflinchingly and without pandering.

Lewisboro's biggest issue is increasing its tax base sufficiently to provide the services necessary to attract new residents without excessive tax increases. There is no magic bullet but rather the adoption of a new mentality. We need to improve our existing natural, recreational and cultural assets while publicizing them better. We need to adopt a customer friendly attitude to applications to our Planning and Zoning Boards. We need to be more flexible in deciding which businesses to welcome.
Lewisboro is making a significant contribution toward meeting this need including 46 units currently being considered by our Planning Board plus a series of small properties with one to three units scattered across the Town. In practice these small properties are likely the only reasonable way forward in Lewisboro. NYC DEP regulations forbid the creation of new sewage systems in the 70% of the Town in the NYC watershed. The remaining area supplies water to the Norwalk and Stamford reservoirs.
