What do you think are the top three equity issues in the district and how will you address them?

Qualifications: Current Board Chair My wife Reena and I are the proud parents of two high school kids. Our daughter graduates from Reynolds High School this year and our son is a sophomore. I have served The Reynolds School District board for the past 8 years.
There are changes from the federal level that will shift resources and decisions to the state level allowing more local control. I support the shift and will work to advocate with our state lawmakers and work with my fellow board members to ensure we are meeting our obligations to our students in a way that is effective and meaningful. We must ensure that each and every child in our community has equitable access to a quality education.
1. We serve a high number of homeless kids and students on free and reduced lunch. 2. We serve a higher than funded percentage of students with disabilities. 3. The skyrocketing costs of PERS is cutting into to the classroom. I will work with our board to ensure we are utilizing the resources we have wisely and continue to advocate at the state level to encourage legislators to take seriously their state constitutionally mandated requirement to fund a quality education.
In good times and bad our district has been working with constrained funding. The failure of the legislature to provide adequate stable funding is evidenced by the fact that K-12 funding has been flat adjusted for inflation since 1991. We have made significant cuts and will continue to do so with the current proposed funding levels. I will advocate to cut away from the classroom minimizing the impact on students where possible.
