What are your top priorities?
Safe Communities - As the county population grows it becomes increasingly important to support strong public safety including our rural fire and ambulance services.
Economic Vitality - Support continued growth through a measured approach of fiscal responsibility.
Reliable Infrastructure - Support for strategic infrastructure maintenance and development identified in the Cass County comprehensive plan.
What is the biggest challenge facing the county, and how would you address it?
Public Safety - Public safety is a bedrock service which is consistently valued by citizens as on of the most important considerations when deciding where to live and raise a family. With a strong background in public safety, my support is unwavering. Working with the Cass County Sheriff's department and our rural responders to identify efficiencies and collaborative measures, without compromising safety, will be paramount.
How would you address the housing needs of the county?
As the metro area expands we also need to consider and encourage housing development within bedroom communities as well as our metro area. Working with local governments to support countywide community growth will allow for a greater variety of housing options.
Do you expect that the new state law capping property tax budget increases at 3% will impact the county’s budget?
Public safety, infrastructure, and capital improvements will all be under pressure as future budgets apply the property tax cap. Continued long range planning and fiscally responsible budgets will assure funding of priorities.
How would you address the county’s list of infrastructure maintenance projects?
Support of the projects identified in the Cass County comprehensive plan and explore various funding mechanisms to address those projects. It will also become increasingly important to try and leverage the timing of those projects with community growth.
