I am the current Judge in Henderson Municipal Court, Department 1. Since 2022, I have presided over misdemeanor criminal cases and traffic matters in Henderson. I also preside over Veterans Treatment Court aiding those who have served our country. For 16 years I served as a prosecutor in the Clark County District Attorney’s Office. I handled all cases, from misdemeanors to Category A felonies, and have extensive jury trial experience. Throughout my career in public service, I have treated people with respect while managing high volume dockets and emotionally charged cases. Being a judge requires patience and the courage to make tough decisions fairly and consistently. I have demonstrated those qualities for the past 3 years.

My responsibility is to apply the law impartially, which includes following binding statutes and case law. In evaluating any case, I apply the plain language of the statute and relevant precedent case law to reach a fair and impartial decision. Precedent is a fundamental part of the legal system. Where legislative intent is integral, I first look at the plain language of the statute, giving the words their ordinary meaning unless otherwise defined by the legislature. If there is any ambiguity, then I look at the legislative history for the intent. My focus is on applying the law faithfully in each case, guided by the Constitution, applicable statutes, and precedent while maintaining impartiality and public confidence in the judiciary.

I took an oath requiring that I remain impartial and independent. In practice, this means ensuring that my rulings are grounded in legal authority, and clearly reasoned. Applying these principles maintains public trust. All individuals are equal under the law. Every person must receive the same fairness, respect, and careful consideration under the law. I live by the golden rule, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Hence, in my courtroom, I am committed to applying the law equally. I treat everyone with dignity and respect. I recognize the impact my decisions have on individuals and public safety. I am mindful that each interaction with the public shapes their perception of the justice system.

As a Hearing Commissioner, I'm currently evaluating evidence, applying statutes, and making rulings. I have an understanding of the courtroom procedure, credibility determinations, and how to manage a calendar. I have experience handling 1000s of misdameanor cases from arraignment to trial.

But more importantly, I have the judicial temperament to work with all misdemeanors. Municipal Court is often the community court where many people are navigating court for the first time or without representation. Having the ability to be respectful while clearly communicating the process, expectations and outcomes is a necessity to securing access to justice.

The law must be applied impartially and fairly to all that appear in my courtroom. Decisions must be made timely. And any administration of requirements must be relevant to the behavior and to the deter future crimes.

I will review the court's forms and resources to assure we are providing access to the community. I will review each case thoroughly and provide the people opportunity to understand the process through clear explanations and time. Rushed actions and confusing scenarios cause error and unnecessary delay.
