Public Education and economic growth
How would you ensure that North Dakotans’ healthcare costs are affordable?
The State of ND needs to support federal legislation that increases and strengthens Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act and moved toward a single payer health system that can more affectively regulate drug and health care costs.
How would you address the housing needs of the state?
I carried petitions in the 1970s to create the housing finance agency that has helped build numerous housing units. Other state initiatives should be considered that encourage home ownership for moderate income families.
What is your position on allowing public funds to be directed to non-public education?
I believe private schools have an important role in education but should not receive public funds.
What are your views on the current voting methods and access to voting in North Dakota?
North Dakota is a model for the nation in conducting elections without fraud and without voter registration. No additional restrictions are needed.
What is the role of the federal government regarding states’ rights, and are there currently any areas where you believe there is an imbalance?
The Declaration of Independence establishes the Federal Government as the protector of human rights and seeks to insure that the government exists by the consent of the governed. Historically, the Federal Government prohibited States from taking away civil rights by means such as Jim Crow laws. States have had the ability to protect the environment and human rights beyond the Federal standards but not less than those standards. ICE violates the US Constitution by denying due process.
