What are your top priorities?
With no one running in the primary against me I have not had much time to talk to constituents about what their priorities are. School funding that keeps property taxes low yet funds schools at proper levels, more worker protections, honesty and transparency in government.
How would you ensure that North Dakotans’ healthcare costs are affordable?
This is a tough one with the federal government controlling so many aspects of it. Keeping out insurance plans that do not serve the individual citizen comes to mind. I'm guessing we will receive ideas when we canvass the families in my district.
How would you address the housing needs of the state?
This is not a simple problem as there are stark difference between city and rural needs. I believe there are loans from the State Bank that could help. If we can put forth $500 million for a pipeline maybe we could spend some to help our working families with housing
What is your position on allowing public funds to be directed to non-public education?
The North Dakota constitution does not allow it. I have hard time supporting funds being spent on non-public schools when public education isn't fully funded.
What are your views on the current voting methods and access to voting in North Dakota?
I have worked the polls for many years. After seeing the process and working multiple elections it gets my temperature up quickly when people say it is easy to cheat. Come work some elections to find out what is done to protect the vote instead of spreading conspiracies about election fraud.
Mail-in voting is a necessity for some very rural counties in our state, and if you come see, it is safe.
We should make it easier for citizens to vote, not harder.
What is the role of the federal government regarding states’ rights, and are there currently any areas where you believe there is an imbalance?
This is spelled out in the United States constitution and needs to be followed.

What are your top priorities?
1. a budget that meets the needs while enabling local control
2. implementing federal Rural Health Transformation funding to assure it serves individuals, establishing a network to whic medical providers can subscribe to share records, like big hospitals have. It would reduce trips to larger cities for specialty care follow-up by enabling local providers to be connected to larger hubs.
3. educational program that provide the best opportunities for students and successful results for state
How would you ensure that North Dakotans’ healthcare costs are affordable?
Health care costs are not something the state sets. Access to good insurance options, assuring that appropriate medical procedures are adequately reimbursed by Medicaid for qualifying individuals, working with feds on dealing with pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), encouraging healthy behaviors and choices for people.
How would you address the housing needs of the state?
The ND Housing Finance Agency is a good partner to work with local banks on programs which support construction projects which help to meet needs. The Bank of ND works with local banks on loan programs for individuals buying homes also. I would like to see a Renaissance Zone program for older housing, similar to what has been successful for commercial properties.
What is your position on allowing public funds to be directed to non-public education?
I prefer to have public funding applied to public schools. Opening it up to on-line programs and all private programs leaves a large window for off-beat groups to establish programs which may not be by religious organizations with which we are now familiar. Private schools do NOT have to provide any services to students with special needs, so those students need to be transported to public schools where the services are provided. That is disruptive.
What are your views on the current voting methods and access to voting in North Dakota?
Mail-in ballots are the only means for voting in some rural counties. Early voting is an excellent option to election day voting.
ND's elections are very secure with identification via driver's licenses or other state authorized IDs. ND is excluded from the federal SAVE bill, because the feds have approved the security. Election workers are trained to assist with questions from voters, and the process goes smoothly in the state.
What is the role of the federal government regarding states’ rights, and are there currently any areas where you believe there is an imbalance?
The US Constitution should be the determining factor about whether the federal government has authority or the states. There should be no federal intrusions on states rights.
