What are the most pressing challenges facing New Jersey in 2025, and how do you propose to address them?
South Jersey families are facing an affordability crisis. I passed legislation requiring utilities to give customers better tools to manage costs and am sponsoring bills to boost NJ’s domestic energy output while protecting working families from subsidizing large users like AI data centers. Rising property taxes, groceries, childcare, and healthcare are stretching household budgets. We must hold the line on taxes, deliver the promised 50% property tax cut for seniors, and provide relief for families. I support capping utility rate hikes at 2% to prevent price gouging. We must also invest in local agriculture, small businesses, and infrastructure to support rural communities. Ensuring South Jersey gets its fair share of state funding is vital for education, healthcare, and transportation. I helped secure a grant to improve Salem County transportation, expanding access to food, healthcare, and education, and passed legislation funding critical dam repairs across South Jersey.
What reforms do you support to improve New Jersey’s democracy?
To strengthen our democracy, we must ensure citizens have safe, secure, and easy access to the electoral process. This begins with safeguarding elections through robust security measures to protect voter data and prevent interference. Expanding early voting and access to vote-by-mail will empower more people to participate in our democracy. We must also prioritize voting access for individuals with disabilities, providing the necessary resources and accommodations to guarantee that everyone can exercise their right to vote. In addition to expanding access, we must pursue comprehensive government ethics reform to rebuild public trust in our institutions.
How do you plan to strengthen and support New Jersey’s economy?
Supporting rural economies is critical. We must ensure local control to prevent unregulated mega warehouse development and invest in local job creation and family farms. Small businesses and working families are the backbone of our economy. To foster growth, we must support them with fair tax policies, reduced red tape, and job creation incentives. I’m sponsoring bills to remove bureaucratic hurdles, protect small businesses from excessive fines, and improve communication between state agencies and business owners. Expanding high-speed internet in rural South Jersey is essential for emergency response, telehealth, education, and economic progress. Connectivity is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity that will unlock new opportunities and drive long-term growth. By addressing the needs of rural communities, we can strengthen local economies and ensure no part of South Jersey is left behind.
What steps, if any, will you take to ensure equitable funding and support for public education?
Investing in K-12 education is essential to student success, especially in rural South Jersey. We must address funding inequities, so all schools have the resources to deliver high-quality education. This includes fully funding universal pre-K, mental health services, wellness rooms, and training for faculty to support students’ academic and emotional needs. I secured funding for the Clayton Model, which offers individualized educational and emotional support for elementary students struggling with mental health and learning challenges. We must also expand post-secondary opportunities. Rowan University is vital to workforce development and South Jersey’s economy, and continued investment is key. Vocational education is equally important. I passed a bill to expand Cumberland County Technical Education Center’s career programs, helping students prepare for in-demand jobs and successful careers.
What immigration policies do you support?
For decades, America has suffered from a broken immigration system, made worse by Congress’s repeated failure to act. As a result, we find ourselves at a chaotic crossroads. It is critical that we secure our borders and finally enact comprehensive immigration reform—reform that includes a fair, earned pathway to citizenship for undocumented individuals who contribute positively to our country. We must also modernize our visa system to reflect the economic realities facing our businesses and farmers, who depend on a reliable and legal workforce to thrive. At the same time, we must uphold due process—a cornerstone of American justice—while making it clear that individuals who commit violent crimes will be held fully accountable and denied safe harbor. Our immigration policy must reflect compassion and an unwavering commitment to public safety.
