What skills and experience do you bring to school board service?
I’ve worked as a camp counselor, camp director, substitute teacher, storage facility manager, and been a full time stay home father since the day my eldest daughter was born 7 years ago. This year I have been volunteering in my daughter’s first grade class, playing learning games singing songs and helping with activities.
What is your understanding of the District’s obligations to comply with federal and state education policies?
Public schools must provide a free quality education to all children in our town. It is our job to make sure that education is available to all children of any background, ability, experience etc. Everyone.
How would you address the issues facing the District’s schools that you consider the most urgent?
After speaking with teachers, administrators, community members parents, I think the most pressing issue in our district right now is that we need to refocus our school board to productive work of supporting the hard working professional educators in our town. And I firmly believe that starts with listening. Listening to our professional educators, listening to parents, and listening to experts in general.
I’ve met with our principals, or superintendent, librarians, city council members, parents teachers everyone I’ve talked to says they want someone who is going to set politics aside and focus on the work of supporting our schools, and I want to do that.
