What skills and experience do you bring to the board?
I was appointed to the Deschutes Public Board in 2024 and I am active community member, serving on the City of Redmond Parks Committee. I participate in library-specific trainings and conferences to further my professional development. These efforts reflect my dedication to continuous growth and my commitment to excellence in my role as a Library Board member. I played a key role in celebrating the successful completion of the new Redmond Library, which was finished on time and under budget, and continue to support the remaining 2020 bond projects. I am also a strong proponent of collaboration with local partners, educational programming, and initiatives that promote lifelong learning.
What do you see as the role of libraries today, and what kinds of services do you consider important for the library to provide?
I believe in the transformative power of libraries to open doors, foster creativity, and connect people to opportunities. My vision for the Deschutes Public Library system is one of inclusivity, accessibility, and innovation. I believe that libraries should be spaces where everyone—regardless of age, background, or ability—can thrive.
What do you see as the greatest challenges facing libraries today, and how would you address them?
Libraries are facing challenges from increasing amounts of book challenges and now executive orders related to federal funding. Robust systems for responding to book challenges and supporting staff in these ongoing efforts is critical. Understanding the historical trends, future projections, and revenue sources of the budget is important as the board approves the budget each year.
