Why are you running for the Buchanan Town Board? What relevant skills and experience can you offer?

I am a retired teacher and have served on the Town Board since 2013. My desire to learn more about our political system coupled with my passion for giving back to this community led me to explore paths for my future in government. I knew that if I wanted to make a difference, I had a lot to learn about the Town's history, how we got to where we are, and what we would hope to leave as a footprint to the future generations of family and friends who will enjoy the benefits of living here.

What do you believe are the three major issues the Town of Buchanan will face in the next decade?

The infrastructure, roads, and drainage problems have been identified as pertinent issues from the residents. Research told us that when farmers developed their land back in the day, the plans were not written by engineers. Most of the land was flat and drainage was problematic from the start. With the help of our engineers at Cedar, we have a CIP plan in place that will, slowly but surely, help our infrastructure recover.

What should the Town of Buchanan do to maintain or improve safety (police, fire, EMS, etc.)? What ideas do you have for collaborating with other communities?

For many years now, our fire and EMS department have been working closely with Combined Locks to provide the best services possible for both communities. Our hope is to formally consolidate these services for the numerous benefits seen by working together as a team. Our police contract with the Outagamie County Sheriff's Department also continues to develop and improve safety in the Town.

What do you feel should be done to balance road improvements and budget?

The Town Board commissioned a Drainage Study in 2011, and we have been trying to rectify the problems ever since. I am so proud of what we have accomplished in improving our infrastructure since I became involved in 2013. With your vote of support in the upcoming election, I will know that you like what you see happening, as well, and I pledge to continue the hard work it takes to reach our highest goals.

What are your thoughts on the development of parks and greenways for the Town of Buchanan?

We saw a definite need to reevaluate the needs of existing parks and established a Parks Committee to bring new life to our overlooked greenspace. With your children and grandchildren, you can now enjoy the fruits of their labor at the new and improved Springfield Park. This type of development is so important to our quality of life here in Buchanan!
