They are governed by a board of directors, which is responsible for management and financial accountability. Special districts are empowered to levy any necessary taxes and fees to fulfill their mandate. Board members are not paid but may receive a per diem reimbursement.Port District boards manage the infrastructure of local ports and their development for recreational, economic, and environmental purposes.Qualifications: Candidate must be a registered voter in the district. What are your priorities for the upcoming term, and how would you address them?
1. Increase community Involvement-- make a commitment to listening citizens as part of every decision-making process.
2. Continue bridge replacement efforts -- support the work of the HR/WS Bridge Authority.
3. Maintain the existing bridge until a new bridge is built-- maintain vigilance and ensure rigorous efforts to inspect, repair and maintain the structure.
4. Enhance the Hood River Waterfront-- focus on excellent maintenance of parks and trails and developing Lot #1 in a thoughtful way so that Hood River can be proud.
5. Re-consider the future of the Port of Hood River-- engage in a sustained community involvement effort to determine the mission, strategic direction, goals and capacity of the port in the future.
