What skills and experience do you bring to school board service?
I listen. I have the ability to see things from different perspectives. Having served on other boards I understand how to handle conflict. I understand the needs of special education, gifted education and mainstream education.
What is your understanding of the District’s obligations to comply with federal and state education policies?
As far as federal is concerned, I think we are facing an uncertain future as to what that is going to look like and what will be expected from school districts. It is my understanding that we need to comply with both federal and state policies.
How would you address the issues facing the District’s schools that you consider the most urgent?
I would consider safety for our educators and students to be the most urgent. I would hold town halls/listening sessions where we as a board can hear what is happening in the classrooms and whom its affecting. while also talking with the educators and administrators about ways to make school safer and listen to what they need from us as a board. I believe If we can help our schools become safe and welcoming, we will see attendance and enrollment rise. Allowing us to work on other issues, like test scores, textbooks, etc.
