I bring 12 years of local governmental experience working for the City of Albany, 6 Years of experience being on the Board of Directors for the non-profit organization Fish of Albany, and 6 years of experience being the treasurer for the Albany Police Association. With these groups I have gained a solid skillset in policy, budgeting, and strategic planning.

In addition to these skills, I bring a strong background of educational knowledge holding a master's in education from Western Oregon University and currently working on a master's in public administration at Portland State University.

The school board plays a key role in overseeing policy adherence and advocating for necessary resources. Compliance is tied to funding, meaning failure to meet obligations can result in financial penalties or loss of grants. The district must ensure policies are applied fairly, provide training for staff, and submit required reports to state and federal agencies.

Directors do have the voice and obligation to voice opinions at the state and federal level with policies are shown to be detrimental to student outcomes. However, even if a district does not agree with a policy, that does not relieve the district of its' requirement to follow it.

Community trust, student safety, and budget short falls or the most important issues facing the district. I will be an advocate for all community members to ensure that their voices are heard.

I will fight for more supports for students with social, emotional, and special needs. I will advocate for more counseling and mental health services to ensure these supports.

These issues will not be easily fixed as budget short falls and constant changing federal and state policies lead for an unknown future. However, my ability to think creatively as well as bring the issue to the state and federal representatives will be key in the district's success.

I am a 30 year veteran teacher who has taught every grade level and configuration from pre-first to college. I offer this position a unique set of hard-won skills, a wealth of experience, and a depth of knowledge and insight. I understand how students learn and the process of learning. I offer the knowledge of best practices and effective teaching methods. I’ve learned how to adapt to changing times, shifting policies and practices, and evolving student needs. I am an advocate for meeting students' needs - academically, socially and emotionally. I know the importance of supporting DEI in the schools. I am also an advocate for educators and know first hand the pressures and joys of teaching. I am the voice that is missing at the table.

A school district has an obligation to comply with federal and state education policies which are critical for an equitable education. Federal laws such as Title IX, IDEA & ESSA are key in leveling the playing field for students in school, ensuring that all students have access to a quality, non-discriminatory education. At the state level, the board is responsible for confirming that the curriculum is aligned to state standards, that teachers are properly vetted and participate in professional development to hone their skill and knowledge. It is also charged with ensuring that all funds and resources are allocated both efficiently and fairly while maintaining a balanced budget. These laws will safeguard student rights and well-being.

An urgent issue in our district is the lack of truthful transparency from the board to all stakeholders as well as the ongoing need to support all staff, students and their families. I would address these issues by ensuring better and more open truthful communication from the board and ensure accurate public communications. Another issue before us is ensuring the safety of students - physically, emotionally, and mentally while they are in our care. I plan to combat this by addressing the need for lower class sizes and mental health personnel in order to facilitate safety. The dismantling of DEI & DOE is a critical issue . To stop this, our community must come together and stand firm against marginalizing our most vulnerable stakeholders.
