What skills and experience do you bring to school board service?

As a mother of five children in preschool through high school, I bring a personal and informed perspective to education. I serve as a mental health counselor and clinical director for our local community mental health program, working closely with schools, law enforcement, and DHS. With over 20 years in the community, I understand both the resources available and the challenges families face. I’m committed to using my experience to support students, families, and educators, and to help ensure every child has access to the opportunities they need to succeed.

What is your understanding of the District’s obligations to comply with federal and state education policies?

Serving on the school board requires a strong understanding of how state and federal policies impact our local schools. In Malheur County, it’s essential to navigate funding requirements, educational standards, and accountability measures while advocating for the unique needs of our rural community. I am committed to ensuring that these policies are implemented in ways that support our students, respect local values, and make the most of available resources to improve educational outcomes for all.

How would you address the issues facing the District’s schools that you consider the most urgent?

To address the district’s urgent needs, I will prioritize financial transparency by supporting timely audits and responsible budgeting. I will advocate for targeted strategies to improve attendance and academic performance, especially at the middle school level. I support efforts to restore funding for local food programs, which benefit student health and our local economy. Additionally, I am committed to transparent governance and open communication to rebuild trust with our community and ensure all stakeholders are informed and involved in decision-making.
