Special districts in Oregon are formed to provide specific local government needs. They are created by a vote of the people in the local area being served. Examples include people’s utility districts, library districts, water districts, fire protection districts, and more. They are governed by a board of directors, which is responsible for management and financial accountability. Special districts are empowered to levy any necessary taxes and fees to fulfill their mandate. Board members are not paid but may receive a per diem reimbursement.The 267 fire protection districts in Oregon can have different structures and mandates, but all are responsible for funding and staffing fire prevention and safety services, and for managing the budgets of local fire stations.Qualifications: Candidate must be a registered voter or a landowner in the district. If the district has a supporting ordinance, employees of the district are not eligible. ORS 478.050Term: 4 years

What skills and experience, including prior board experience, do you bring to the position?

I have over 38 years experience in the Wild land Fire industry, I am one of the leading experts in the Nation on the subject of Fire Weakened Timber, I work with hundreds of Wild land Fire urban interface Fire Departments all over the Nation, I am the Author of 4 Technical Fire Weakened and Hazard Mitigation books, that are used in the Cal Fire Academy and are used by many USFS and BLM elite Wild land Fire Teams across our Nation, I was a USFS certifier and was apart of the injury and fatality review group for 8 years .

What do you see as the top priorities for the District, and how would you achieve them?

Our District needs to bring true professionals in Wild land Fire to the table and not let politics govern Wild land Fire , we need to create proper strategies and solutions, that benefit our District that will help to mitigate Wild land Fire in our urban interface areas, Wild land Fire should be on our agenda with good solutions that benefit our communities

How do you understand the board’s role in relation to that of the fire chief?

Bring decades of experience at a top National level will add to the board of other experienced members can help drive the right solutions in the right direction to achieve results as well as create a safer community for all that live in our rural areas .
