What skills and experience do you bring to school board service?
I bring a strong combination of leadership, community involvement, and firsthand experience as a small business owner and parent. As a lifelong Grants Pass resident and business owner for 26 years, I understand the values and priorities of our community.
am passionate about education and committed to making sure our schools focus on academic achievement, character development, and preparing students for success beyond high school. My leadership experience, strategic decision-making skills, and dedication to our schools make me well-equipped to continue serving our district effectively.
What is your understanding of the District’s obligations to comply with federal and state education policies?
As the incumbent, I understand the district is required to comply with both federal and state education policies while also advocating for local control to best serve our community’s needs. These policies cover areas such as curriculum standards, student rights, special education services, etc.
While compliance is necessary, I believe it is equally important to ensure that these policies do not undermine local values, parental rights, or the district’s ability to provide a high-quality education. As a board member, my role is to navigate these requirements while prioritizing what is best for our students, teachers, and families. This includes ensuring that funding is used effectively, and curriculum remains age appropriate.
How would you address the issues facing the District’s schools that you consider the most urgent?
The most urgent issues facing our district require a strong focus on academic achievement, parental involvement, financial responsibility, and local control. As a school board member, I am committed to addressing these challenges in a way that puts students first while ensuring our schools reflect the values of our community.
