I believe my unique and previous experience as a School Board Member (Benton Community School District, Van Horne, Iowa & Mayor City of Norway, Iowa) will provide a diverse perspective.
Students need teachers who look like them and they need to be exposed to teachers and perspectives different from their own. What will you do to advance the recruitment of teachers who reflect the diversity of your School District's student body?
Build strong relationships with the diverse communities. Ensure community engagement. Create inclusive recruitment practices. Leverage data and analyze gaps as well as social media and digital platforms.
What is the role of a school board member in your school district? What do you see as a board member’s responsibilities?
Role of a school board member is to own the governance and policy making role of the district. Responsibilities include prioritizing student success while managing costs, ensuring financial transparency and accountability, engaging the communities in budget decisions, advocating for fair and adequate state funding and making smart long-term investments.
