Please describe your priorities for your term in office.

My priorities include: 1) Creating more housing opportunities through the Ridge View Estates residential development and other planned housing initiatives; 2) Maintaining service levels in a fiscally responsible manner; 3) Completing a classification and compensation study to collect data to help steer employee retention efforts; 4) Negotiating 10-year joint fire and EMS contracts with five surrounding townships in our service territory; 5) Completing downtown and Janesville Avenue corridor planning and creating a long-term implementation strategy.

What would you do to promote civility and cooperative problem-solving in your community?

I’m committed to civil discourse, maintaining open communication channels and creating an environment where all perspectives are welcome. Our municipal government will continue to encourage citizen participation, promoting respectful discussions about the city’s operations, plans and challenges. When we have differences of opinion, my goal is to be an active listener to increase my understanding of various points of view in a search for common ground.

What is the most pressing social service issue facing your community and what should your local government do about it?

Our community has a housing shortage. We’re addressing it by facilitating development of private infrastructure on 75 acres of city-owned property in the new Ridge View Estates subdivision. Construction of an 87-unit apartment complex will begin this spring. The site includes lots for town homes, duplexes and single-family homes. The city is also working with Fort HealthCare to bring more multi-family and senior housing to Fort Atkinson. We’re collaborating with Habitat for Humanity and local sponsors to build a duplex in our community, offering more affordable housing solutions. In 2025, the city will develop guidelines for a new Affordable Housing Fund to further address the demand for housing.
