The 19 education service districts in Oregon were created by the Legislature to oversee and support the school districts in their area. They provide supplemental services such as special education and coordinate services shared among several school districts. They also certify teachers, maintain school property, and are empowered to create new school districts.Qualifications: Candidate must be a registered voter and a resident of the district for at least 1 year. Employees of the district are not eligible. ORS 334.090(5), 334.090(6).Term: 4 years

Your Experience/Qualifications I am a retired teacher and elementary principal. After my retirement, I substituted in Oregon, primarily at Bandon and Coquille D istricts. I have served on the South Coast Education Service District Board for two terms. I hold a B. S. degree from University of Washington, and two Masters degrees, one in Ed. Psy. and one Ed. Adm. from U> C. San Bernadino .o

What relevant skills and experience do you bring to this position?

I have extensive experience in teaching in many states early in my career and for eighteen years as a principal for 18 years in Riverside, California. My previous experience with the E.S.D. here in Coos Bay allows me to have a clearer understanding of the present situation.

What functions of the ESD are most important to you?

Seeking the most highly skilled staff members to serve in our districts. Providing curriculum that supports the needs of students, families, and the community for the future success of our students.

How can the ESD better serve the area’s school districts?

The ESD can best serve its districts by providing high quality, well trained personnel. The ESD should be responsive to the needs of the community its students will be living in after their school years.
