What skills and experience do you bring to school board service?
As a Community Engagement Specialist, I have extensive experience fostering partnerships, managing grants, and implementing initiatives that enhance public health and community well-being. My background in strategic planning, resource allocation, and public relations has allowed me to drive impactful change by working collaboratively with organizations and community leaders. I know how to unite people, communicate effectively, and use data to guide informed decisions—all essential skills for a school board member. As a parent, I understand the challenges families face in our schools. These experiences equip me to advocate for students, support educators, and make responsible decisions that benefit our district.
What is your understanding of the District’s obligations to comply with federal and state education policies?
The District must comply with laws such as IDEA, Title IX, and ESSA, ensuring equitable access to education for all students. State mandates on early literacy, attendance, and career education require thoughtful implementation. Compliance isn’t just about meeting requirements—it’s about ensuring policies improve student success, teacher support, and resource use. I will advocate for transparency in funding and accountability in program implementation. As a board member, I will ensure our schools go beyond minimum compliance to create an inclusive, well-supported learning environment where all students can thrive.
How would you address the issues facing the District’s schools that you consider the most urgent?
One of the most urgent issues facing our schools is resource allocation amidst funding cuts. I will advocate for a review of budget priorities to ensure funds are directed toward programs and services that directly impact student achievement. Strengthening community partnerships can provide additional support for students and educators. Student safety is also a priority, requiring stronger mental health resources, anti-bullying programs, and emergency preparedness. Additionally, third-grade literacy and chronic absenteeism need urgent attention. I will advocate for data-driven literacy programs and proven attendance interventions, such as early intervention and family engagement.
