Your Experience/Qualifications
I have lived in this community for over 20 years and care about what goes on here. I have extensive leadership and planning background. I am currently serving on the Harbor Rural Fire District board and am trying to make sure that the public's voice is heard.
What skills and experience, including prior board experience, do you bring to the position?
Organization, problem solving, previous board experience, ability to multitask, oversee and complete projects, work with others, leadership
What do you see as the top priorities for the District, and how would you achieve them?
I believe transparency of the Board and leadership of the fire department, working to make sure that standards are met not only by the fire department as a whole, but also each individual that is a part - from the board to the volunteer firefighters. I think that an organization is only as good as it's leadership. With the leadership doing what they are supposed to do, and not overstepping bounds, then the people under them will follow. This makes a strong, solid team.
How do you understand the board’s role in relation to that of the fire chief?
The Board is representation of the public to the department. The Fire Chief is hired by the board, answers to the board, but runs daily operations without interference of the board. The Board cannot act as single individuals but as a whole. Each member must make sure to have the best interests of the public, not themselves, in mind and follow the statutes set.
