The state of SC has found $1.8 billion. What do you believe should be done with the money?

SC needs to expand Medicaid. While most of the cost will be covered by the federal government, SC can use the $1.8 billion to cover the rest so no tax increase is needed for several years.

What do you believe is the role the SC Legislature has in ensuring access to quality & affordable healthcare?

Ensuring access to quality and affordable healthcare is one of the SC Legislature's primary roles. The South Carolina Constitution agrees with the US Declaration of Independence that the government's role is to protect citizens' liberties. No person can be truly free without basic human rights of housing, food, and healthcare; therefore, it is the SC Legislature's responsibility to work toward meeting these needs for all South Carolinians.

What do you believe are the current challenges facing public education in SC, and what would you do to address them?

The main challenge facing public education is funding. Our state system has been systematically underfunded for decades, extremists threaten to divert funding to private schools, and many public school districts have not been held accountable for responsible use of the funding they receive. Properly funding education will allow districts to increase pay, hire more qualified staff, improve school safety, and purchase the highest quality curriculum. It would also give the state system and school districts the resources needed to educate stakeholders on the importance of teaching accurate history, sharing a wide variety of books, and providing social-emotional education.
