Dedicated community organizer, former Democratic nominee for SC26, and a candidate for Fort Mill Town Council, I bring a wealth of experience in public service and advocacy.
The state of SC has found $1.8 billion. What do you believe should be done with the money?
When South Carolina found $1.8 billion, I strongly advocated for using it to feed hungry children in our state, especially during the summer when many go without meals. Governor McMaster rejected this proposal, which is unacceptable. This money should be used to address critical needs like funding public education, supporting teachers, expanding healthcare access, and investing in infrastructure. Prioritizing these areas would create a more equitable and prosperous future for all South Carolinians, rather than leaving our most vulnerable citizens behind.
What do you believe is the role the SC Legislature has in ensuring access to quality & affordable healthcare?
The South Carolina Legislature plays a crucial role in ensuring access to quality and affordable healthcare by expanding Medicaid, protecting women's health and reproductive rights, and addressing health disparities. By supporting community health centers, investing in preventive care, and controlling healthcare costs through transparency and regulation, the legislature can improve healthcare access across the state. Additionally, promoting healthcare workforce development and leveraging technology like telemedicine can further enhance care for underserved communities, ensuring equitable healthcare for all.
What do you believe are the current challenges facing public education in SC, and what would you do to address them?
Public education in South Carolina faces significant challenges, including inadequate funding, teacher shortages, and disparities in educational resources. To address these issues, we must increase state funding to ensure all schools have the necessary resources, raise teacher salaries to attract and retain talent, and invest in rural and underserved areas to close the achievement gap. I also oppose privatization efforts that divert resources from public schools. By prioritizing education, we can ensure every child in South Carolina has access to quality learning opportunities.
