Background: What would you like people to know about you?
My BBA in Economics, cum laude, Juris Doctorate, and years of experience enable me to tackle difficult, pressing issues confronting CISD. My experience includes investment/securities fraud; child crime victims; high-conflict family/estates; ad litem appt for the elderly; pro-bono & volunteering.
Qualifications: What training, experience and characteristics qualify you for this position?
My BBA in Economics, Juris Doctorate, and years of experience help me create great solutions that work. I have a calm, kind, solution-focused demeanor shaped by years of experience working with families and children in a vast array of circumstances.
Opportunities: Based on the District's latest improvement plan, what do you see as the greatest opportunities for improvement and how do you see the Board supporting the improvement plan?
A growing population of non-English-speaking families and associated cultural differences; maintenance and improvement of quality instruction; and health needs play a huge role in many areas teachers and staff confront daily. The Board can lead in offering management, direction, and outreach.
Supporting Teachers: What do you see as the most pressing issues facing the District's teachers? What actions can the Board take to better support teachers?
Teachers are no longer as supported by student familial involvement at previous levels and are getting burned out professionally. The Board needs to set community goals and standards and publicize them so parents learn and fill expectations responsibly. School is a place for academic achievement.
Challenges: What do you view as the biggest challenge facing the District in the next four years and what actions will you support to meet that challenge?
Population growth, diverse backgrounds, and knowledge of curriculum expectations of students and parents in meeting their duties, obligations, and benefits of a public school education that propel children into good citizens and happy lives - these are the biggest challenges. Lead, kind w/o apology
Future Voters: Assess how the District prepares students to participate in their country’s democracy and describe what the Board can do to support efforts.
Civics must be for every student, beginning with the pledge of allegiance - w/o apology. The Board, administration and teachers must lead as adult professionals, focus on academics w/firm, clear expectations, create an environment of safe/good, w/o social experimentation on children & trust grows.
