Why are you running for the State Legislature?

I am running for State Senate District 22 because I am deeply committed to public education, healthcare access, and the well-being of our community. As a retired Army Master Sergeant and current City Councilperson, I have a strong track record of leadership and advocacy. The recent discussions about rejecting federal funding for our schools alarmed me, knowing firsthand how similar decisions have devastated our healthcare system by turning away $20 billion in federal dollars. My goal is to protect and improve public education, healthcare, and community resources for all Tennesseans.

What do you think are the top 5 issues facing the state of Tennessee at this time, that can be addressed by the Tennessee General Assembly?

Economic Inequality: Despite Tennessee's fast-growing economy, we lead the nation in bankruptcies. The General Assembly must ensure the economy works for all citizens by eliminating the grocery tax and reversing the franchise tax benefiting out-of-state businesses. Education: Fully fund public schools and oppose voucher programs that divert resources from our children’s education. Healthcare: Expand Medicaid and improve access to mental health services to support our most vulnerable populations. Gun Safety: Implement common-sense gun laws to reduce violence and protect our communities. Reproductive Rights: Safeguard women's rights to make their own healthcare decisions without government interference.

If elected, what are the top 3 things you would do to reduce gun related deaths in Tennessee?

Implement Universal Background Checks: Every purchase should undergo thorough background checks, ensuring that responsible gun owners live next to other responsible gun owners, prioritizing community safety while respecting the 2nd Amendment. Promote Safe Storage Laws: Advocate for legislation mandating safe firearm storage to prevent accidents and unauthorized access. We must ensure that children are safe in their schools and communities, emphasizing responsible gun ownership. Enact Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs): These orders empower families and law enforcement to petition courts to temporarily remove firearms from individuals showing signs of posing a risk to themselves or others, balancing gun rights with community safety.
