What experience has prepared you for this office?

I am proud to be from Bannock County. I was born in McCammon, raised on a small farm and went to Marsh Valley where I received lessons in integrity, family values, and hard work. I attended ISU where I received a Business Management, Accounting, and CIS degrees. I raised my family and made a career here. I have been in business and public office for over 40 years. I served as Mayor for 22 years until I accepted the position of County Commissioner for a two years. I Have served on local, state, regional, and multistate boards for economic, transportation, and government purposes.

What do you hope to accomplish if elected?

I appreciate the relationship and dependence of business in Pocatello and Chubbuck. They rely on the workforce and customers residing throughout the region. We have an interdependence upon each other for commerce, entertainment, education, health and safety, and workforce. I believe we need to continue to encourage and foster growth in local Business, State, County, and City opportunities. We need collaboration to secure grants, partnerships, and economic growth while keeping Bannock County a great place to live. I will work closely with department heads in maintaining a fiscally responsible budget. Bannock County needs good relationships with other counties in Southeast Idaho.

What do you feel are the most cost effective activities that Bannock County can do to mitigate climate change?

We need to encourage alternative transportation around our area, including public transit, bike and walking paths, effective use of zoning to place housing, working environments, and business in close proximity with each other. Proper oversight of Planning and Zoning is essential to maintain good growth patterns to help with traffic, economic growth, and proper utilization of area resources throughout the county. We need to effectively support each cities Area of impacts while overseeing the Master Plan of counties Planning and Zoning strategic plan. Maintaining an effective waste management system including recycling at the County landfill can help reduce costs of future climate change.

What experience has prepared you for this office?

My professional journey and personal challenges have uniquely prepared me for the role of County Commissioner. My roots on a dairy farm in Jerome instilled in me the values of hard work and perseverance. Despite humble beginnings, I was inspired to surpass my family's financial limitations. These experiences, along with my battle with lymphoma and subsequent decision to pursue an MBA during treatment, taught me the power of resilience and the importance of education as a transformative tool. My community service as the Executive Director of the Portneuf Greenway Foundation and my advocacy for balanced governance and personal freedoms have honed my leadership skills, preparing me to serve the diverse needs of Bannock County effectively.

What do you hope to accomplish if elected?

If elected, I am committed to fostering a community where growth and personal freedoms coexist harmoniously. My primary goals include enhancing local infrastructure to make Bannock County a more connected and vibrant community, advocating for property tax reforms to ease the financial burden on our residents, and ensuring equal maintenance and investment in important community assets like the Wellness Complex and the Downey Fairgrounds. I also aim to improve accessibility to the commissioners by holding meetings across the county, ensuring all constituents feel represented and heard.

What do you feel are the most cost effective activities that Bannock County can do to mitigate climate change?

Bannock County can take several cost-effective steps to address climate change. These include promoting energy efficiency programs, expanding public transportation to reduce vehicle emissions, and supporting local agriculture to decrease dependency on imported goods, contributing to significant emissions. Additionally, enhancing our green spaces and supporting initiatives like the Portneuf Greenway can increase carbon sequestration while providing recreational opportunities for our community. Right now, the extremism on the commission has eliminated landowners' rights to enjoy their property as they see fit. Solar farms were voted down for the entirety of the county, even though most citizens who testified were for them.

Is there anything else you wish to tell the voters?

I want to express my gratitude for your engagement and support. My campaign is built on the foundation of hard work, resilience, and a commitment to representation. I strive to bring a fresh perspective to the Bannock County Commission, advocating for policies that reflect the true needs of our diverse community. I am here to listen to you, learn from you, and lead with you. Let’s work together to shape a future for Bannock County that we can all be proud of. I would appreciate your vote on May 21st.
