1. What do you hope to accomplish if elected?
I will fight for more local control and less Boise control. First, I am the only candidate in this race who will work to keep our public dollars in our Bonneville County public schools, and not sent primarily to private schools in other parts of the state. Second, I will push to modernize our tax code so that Idaho communities have the tools they need to make significant reductions to residential property taxes. Third, I will protect the rights of women to make decisions regarding life threatening pregnancy complications with their doctor without the risk of criminal liability. Finally, whenever there is an issue that can be addressed by a local governing body, I will insist that the legislature let the locality handle the matter.
2. What experience has prepared you for this office?
I am in my second term as the mayor of Ammon, and prior to that I served two terms on the Ammon City Council. In that time we have made significant improvements to our water, sewer, fire, law enforcement, fiber optics, streets, and taxes. I know the core issues that our Bonneville County residents face, and I deal with them pragmatically.
I have worked with legislators, other cities and with the county to make improvements to our community way of life. I have worked on and advocated for legislation that has made a positive difference to this area. I have significant experience bringing differing views and perspectives together to solve common problems. I will take that approach in the Idaho legislature as well.
3. What do you see as the most significant challenges Idaho faces that you might be able to address in this position?
Growth, education, and property taxes are our most significant challenges. I have dealt with the issues surrounding growth on the ground level as mayor and I believe the legislature needs more local leaders who know and have dealt with these issues. On education, we have a constitutional obligation to ensure that our public schools are successful. This means we cannot--as my opponents propose--take public dollars out of public schools to send to private schools. I have good relationships with our public school districts and will work with them so they have the tools they need for success. Furthermore, we need leaders who understand the local impacts of property taxes and are willing to work creatively to lessen these impacts.
4. Would you support legislation to remove criminal liability for physicians and pregnant women experiencing life threatening pregnancy complications and allow for medical and family decisions regarding continuation of that pregnancy. Please explain your response.
Absolutely. I believe that physicians and pregnant women experiencing life threatening pregnancy complications should make those decisions--even regarding the continuation of that pregnancy--as part of that patient/physician relationship, without the unwarranted fear of criminal liability. I would support legislation to amend Idaho's law in this manner.
5. What else would you like to tell the voters?
I believe that when we trust the people and local governments we are better off. Too often legislators go to Boise and try to solve problems they have no business "solving," when there are better solutions in the cities and counties, or simply with the people themselves. Local boards like city councils, commissioners, water and sewer district boards, school boards, library boards, etc., should be allowed to manage the vast majority of their issues and should be empowered to do so.
I have a track record of problem solving and listening to my constituents. That is who I am, and who I will be as a legislator. Good policy is not confined to a political party--I am ready to work with anyone to help make Bonneville County a better place.

1. What do you hope to accomplish if elected?
I support repealing the grocery sales tax. Grocery costs are through the roof and repealing the 6% grocery tax will help all Idahoans. Many people don’t realize that only eight states tax groceries, and Idaho is one of those states.
I believe in education choice to empower parents and families. Money for education should follow the student, and the parents should decide whether to place their children in government, private, or home schools.
I'm a Trump delegate and support Trump's policy to secure the border wall. Idaho must ensure it’s not a magnet for people entering our country illegally. That’s why I oppose sanctuary cities, free healthcare, free education, and driver’s licenses to anyone entering our country illegally.
2. What experience has prepared you for this office?
Generally speaking, I have owned my own small businesses for several years. I've come to understand that government with the lightest touch possible governs best. This applies to businesses and individuals.
Specifically, as for the sales tax repeal, I was the attorney who litigated repealing the grocery sales tax to the Idaho Supreme Court where the Court agreed that Governor Otter vetoed the grocery tax repeal bill one day late. Unfortunately, the Court gave Governor Otter a "mulligan" holding that it would apply the decision prospectively only. My experience with the grocery tax repeal in this process prepares me to seek a legislative repeal of the grocery sales tax.
3. What do you see as the most significant challenges Idaho faces that you might be able to address in this position?
Excessive Spending. During the last 9 years, Idaho has gone from about $7 billion a year in spending to nearly $14 billion a year in spending. This trajectory is unsustainable. If we don't address it now, we'll be forced to address it when we have fewer options.
Fueled by Obamacare, the welfare program known as Medicaid has grown by 132% in the last several years. Today, one in five Idahoans is receiving Medicaid welfare. At this rate of growth, Medicaid alone will consume larger portions of the budget until Idaho soon will not be able to properly fund important functions like education and infrastructure. We must ensure that welfare programs like Medicaid assist only those in need and not those able to provide for their own needs.

Idaho law now protects physicians acting in good faith and women from criminal liability to prevent the death of a pregnant woman. I support this law. Before the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe, the focus of the Idaho pro-life movement was to get rid of Roe. After the Court overturned Roe, the focus of the Idaho pro-life movement must be to fight against the demands by those who seek to continue abortion in Idaho. I’m 100% pro-life. I believe it’s the duty of our government to protect life that I believe begins at conception. That’s why I’ll fight to protect the life of every unborn child. I will support legislation that is consistent with my pro-life position. I will oppose legislation that is inconsistent with my pro-life position.

I was born and raised in Idaho and graduated from Brigham Young University and law school. I was the first one in my family to go to college. I'm a successful Idaho Falls businessman and lawyer. In 2020, I served as a delegate for President Donald J. Trump at the Republican National Convention, and I'm a Trump delegate again for the July 2024 Republican National Convention where I’ll proudly cast my vote for President Donald J. Trump. I and my wife, Sharon, have five amazing children and eight even more amazing grandchildren. I'm not a career politician. I'm a political outsider who will fight for our conservative values in Boise.
