1. What do you hope to accomplish if elected?

My passion is to rein in big-government and to reduce taxes to reasonable rates. Since my election in 2020, I have helped bring about substantial tax relief in each of the four regular sessions, as well as the special session. Midway through this past session, I was asked to serve as the Chairman of the House Revenue and Taxation Committee. As Chairman, I have a platform to continue to bring taxes down and put more of the peoples’ money where it belongs—in their pockets. I also plan to act as a gate-keeper, preventing government-expanding bills from making it through the pipeline to become law.

2. What experience has prepared you for this office?

My preparation for office began in my formative years, as politics was a frequent topic of discussion around the Cannon family dinner table. My economics education (BYU, 1992) added to my preparation. Studying economics taught me about the benefits and blessings that come from free markets and healthy competition. Law school (University of Utah, 1995) helped prepare me for service in the Idaho House of Representatives, too. I learned a lot about the Constitution, as well as how to analyze laws in law school. My thirty-year career as a lawyer, my thirty-two years of marriage, raising four children, loving six grandchildren and my frequent entrepreneurial adventures all contribute to who I am and play a role in my preparation for office.

3. What do you see as the most significant challenges Idaho faces that you might be able to address in this position?

Idaho faces a number of pressing issues. Our nation’s broken southern border, and the ramifications of illegal immigration is a huge challenge. Shortages in our work force in many industries that contribute to Idaho’s economy is another. Government bloat/bureaucracy is a third. I believe in freedom. I believe in free markets. I believe in individuals, families and small businesses. I do not have faith in big government programs. I do not believe, in general, in government solving problems. After I am re-elected, I will continue to look for ways that bureaucracy and big-government can be reined in such that people, families and small businesses can find solutions to problems and can thrive.

4. Would you support legislation to remove criminal liability for physicians and pregnant women experiencing life threatening pregnancy complications and allow for medical and family decisions regarding continuation of that pregnancy. Please explain your response.

I am pro-life. I do believe that there are circumstances which justify exceptions to a hard-and-fast, black-and-white policy relative to pregnancy. In general, I am not a fan of criminal liability for physicians who are acting consistent with the idea of doing all they can for a mother whose health is in question. I also am not a fan, in general, of criminal liability for pregnant women who act in a way that is consistent with their own health issues.

5. What else would you like to tell the voters?

I have represented Bingham and Butte Counties in the Idaho House of Representatives since 2020. And, I love it! I feel like my values are very much aligned with the values of the folks that I represent. I believe in limited government; reining in government bloat and excess; and traditional family values. I believe in free markets and equality of opportunity. Freedom, liberty and a belief in people and families and small businesses will create a framework that allows Idaho to thrive.

1. What do you hope to accomplish if elected?

I’ve been disappointed watching our legislature waste taxpayers dollars in political bickering and pointless ideological pursuits. I decided to run because I could not sit back and watch our representatives consistently vote against our schools and public safety.

There are real issues that we need to be working on and I plan to be part of solutions by advocating for education, agriculture, local control and business.

2. What experience has prepared you for this office?

I volunteer in several capacities in our community including as board chair for the Snake River School District, a member of the Bingham Board of Guardians, a precinct officer, executive board member and legislative district chair for the Bingham County Republican Party.

I am a former teacher, have worked in the healthcare industry, and currently work for one of Idaho’s Congressional Representatives. I am also a small business owner as I have owned and operated several businesses for 20 years.

Each of these experiences has provided me with unique perspectives on issues that matter to Idahoans like improving educational opportunities, supporting Idaho business, and preserving local control.

3. What do you see as the most significant challenges Idaho faces that you might be able to address in this position?

Bingham County, like the rest of Idaho, is growing rapidly. Growth can create challenges like the need to maintain our public school facilities, improving our infrastructure, and supporting law enforcement. The legislature can anticipate these challenges inherent to growth by ensuring public policy matches the needs of our communities. It is more important now than ever that we keep taxes low and that our law enforcement receive the support and resources they need.

4. Would you support legislation to remove criminal liability for physicians and pregnant women experiencing life threatening pregnancy complications and allow for medical and family decisions regarding continuation of that pregnancy. Please explain your response.

Yes. I am, and always have been, a pro-life Republican, but I believe that we must allow for the consideration of some exceptions. This includes the life and safety of the mother without any criminal liability, rape, and incest.

5. What else would you like to tell the voters?

I am a 4th generation Bingham County resident. This community helped raise me, this is where I am raising my family, and this is where I want my children to raise their families.

If elected, my intention is to listen and learn, to respond with civility, and to be readily available to my constituents. This community is important to me and I hope to represent the interests of the people in District 30.
