1. What do you hope to accomplish if elected?
I will find a way forward for working families and our next generation. I want people to take their responsibilities as seriously as they take their rights. I will support K-3 literacy, Kindergarten as an option for all, greater Pre-K offerings, more CTE apprenticeship opportunities for high school students, and mandating more of the school day be used as recess without a screen. I will support a woman’s right to choose what is best for her own body. I will protect Idaho’s clean air and clean water. I will support working landscapes that balance the needs of current and future generations. I will support Open Primaries and ranked-choice voting. I will support small business owners and the migrant workers whose labor Idaho depends on.
2. What experience has prepared you for this office?
Being a husband has taught me how to negotiate, how to communicate even when I’m angry, and how to show gratitude for someone who wakes up time and time again to do the work that needs to be done. Being a father of two boys has taught me patience and re-taught me the value of curiosity over judgment. Being a teacher has taught me the value of suggestion and influence rather than control. Being a hunter has taught me the value of focus and taking decisive action. Being a homeowner has taught me the value of maintenance. Being a community organizer has taught me the value of an idea and meeting people where they are at. I have worked at many different jobs, most all involving people- each has prepared me for this next challenge.
3. What do you see as the most significant challenges Idaho faces that you might be able to address in this position?
Idaho’s greatest challenge is a lack of moderate, common sense ideas of how government can serve working class families. Our Legislature is held hostage by extreme ideology, and out-of-touch with the challenges and opportunities of our modern world. There are too few fresh ideas in this space. I have spent years in the classroom engaging with Idaho’s younger generation, understanding how they view their role in the future. I believe the most important capital is human capital, and I know how to amplify the power of voices who want to solve the difficult problems our society faces. I value my ability to connect with every voter and to inspire participation among those independent-minded and brave enough to find a way forward.
4. Would you support legislation to remove criminal liability for physicians and pregnant women experiencing life threatening pregnancy complications and allow for medical and family decisions regarding continuation of that pregnancy. Please explain your response.
Yes. The fact that a decision made by a woman and her doctor in a life threatening situation could be prosecuted through government legislation is abhorrent to me. I believe in the sanctity of life, including the mother’s life.
5. What else would you like to tell the voters?
I’m a third generation Idahoan whose grandparents were farmers from Shoshone and Melba. I graduated from the College of Idaho. I teach high school mathematics and think data is interesting. My wife is way smarter than me. Our two boys are our greatest accomplishments. I drive a Hybrid Chevrolet pick-up truck. I wear both Carhartt and Patagonia. I play acoustic electric and shoot a .270 WSM well enough. I am excited to meet you and hear about what you think is important.

1. What do you hope to accomplish if elected?
My over-riding goal is to preserve the Idaho we love while setting Idaho up for a solid future. We can do this by enacting legislation that creates strong communities that have local control, we can support our agricultural base, we absolutely must focus on our water issues, and we can create education pathways for future generations.
2. What experience has prepared you for this office?
I am a retired farmer/dairyman and educator. I am currently serving as a Representative in District 26B. Formerly, I served 20 years on the Jerome County Planning Zoning Commission including as chair. I served six years as a Trustee of the College of Southern Idaho, I am a former member of the Mid-Snake Water Commission, a former College of Southern Idaho Foundation Board member and a current member and Past President of the Jerome Rotary Club.
3. What do you see as the most significant challenges Idaho faces that you might be able to address in this position?
Currently, school facilities funding is inequitable. Our state constitution holds us to ensuring we provide a fair and equitable education to all students. The inequities must be addressed.
Quagga mussels are an ongoing threat to Idaho. The funding provided this past session is not a one and done. Focusing on our water infrastructure is critical to the health and vitality of our state in many ways.
Current Medicaid reimbursements to hospitals and care facilities is below their breakeven costs. In order to have facilities available to care for our citizens, this needs to be addressed by the legislature.
4. Would you support legislation to remove criminal liability for physicians and pregnant women experiencing life threatening pregnancy complications and allow for medical and family decisions regarding continuation of that pregnancy. Please explain your response.
I support this type of legislation. I believe medical issues are between the patient and the doctor and that the government has no place in those decisions. Current laws are forcing doctors and other health professionals to leave the state. Women deserve better than this. Access to sound medical care in our state is paramount.
5. What else would you like to tell the voters?
I would like to tell the voters that I take spending someone else's money (yours - the citizens of Idaho) very seriously, and when I consider how to vote on a bill I vote with that in mind. I also weigh my votes on whether or not the issue at hand can better be solved at the local level with local control. Above all, I strive to serve with common sense, respect and integrity.
