What has inspired you to run for this office?

I desire to be involved in my community and the education in which we provide our young adults. Education is important in all that we do.

What qualifications and experiences do you have that prepare you for the local Board of Education?

I have a unique set of qualifications for wanting to be a board member. I like to first start that I graduated from LUHS. LUHS is a Union school which is a little different than lets say, Rhinelander or Tomahawk, we are made up of many towns that roll into Lakeland. Understanding the make up and diversity that we enroll in a student body help the board vote on curriculum. I have had both my children attend and graduate from Lakeland. Being a student first, a parent of students and now a board member provides a well rounded look at the school and the job of a board member.

What should be the priorities for your district? Please explain.

Priorities of the district first is safety. Second is having the kids attendance be regular in their respective classrooms so that they can learn and third is to provide the students the tools to best help them in their post secondary schooling or careers. Providing this in a building of professionals who are great at their jobs and giving the tools to be the best! We need to get back to academic basics and be providing rigor in our classrooms to push students to be their best. These students are our tomorrows leaders, give them innovation in education to be successful!

Do you have concerns about school funding? Please explain.

In a declining enrollment with the individual educational plan students on the rise it is a mix that is hard to sustain with the formulas of how state and federal provide funding. We have to use our resources well to be able to provide a learning environment that is up to speed all while being fiscally responsible. Looking at the electives we offer, required classes and all the clubs, activities and athletics at Lakeland on the tax dollars we receive is marvelous. In order to keep up this momentum we need to be very careful with fund balance while we pay top dollar for our amazing staff. Our students deserve the very best and it’s the boards responsibility to make sure the administration provides it within the money pool we receive. Everyone has concerns where the dollars are allocated within Wisconsin. We can and will be able to use our resources correctly and be fiscally responsible to the tax payers.

What has inspired you to run for this office?

When talking to former and current students they do not have many great things to say about their time at the school. I have two growing children that will one day walk the halls at LUHS. I want to help ensure they have the best learning environment available to them when the time comes.

What qualifications and experiences do you have that prepare you for the local Board of Education?

I can't lie- I do not have experience working with a Board of Education. I do not know the ins and outs of the board but I do know I want to learn and make a difference. I am currently an office/shop manager for a local automotive repair facility and with that I am proficent with scheduling, budgeting, team leading, and the occasional conflict resolution. All of these skills would make me a great asset to the board.

What should be the priorities for your district? Please explain.

Right now, our district needs to focus on the students. Attendance, student moral, and test scores are all down. We need to find a way to engage the students and make them feel like they are the top priority.

Do you have concerns about school funding? Please explain.

It would be concerning to not have concerns about school funding. The rising cost of the economy is not unfelt by the schools. I feel the current board has a decent handle on the budget but there are always ways to improve.
