Biographical Information

What has inspired you to run for this office?

I have been a member of the school board for the last 3 years and have a sincere desire to be sure that our schools represent the values and commitment to educational excellence our community embraces.

What qualifications and experiences do you have that prepare you for the local Board of Education?

I have 25 years of business management, to include 20 years of working with both elementary and early childhood children. I also worked at Tomahawk School District serving the gifted and talented children and our English Language learners.

What should be the priorities for your district? Please explain.

The basics first: Reading, Math, Science, Language Arts, etc. These come first and foremost. However education does not just come from books, it develops from interactions and experiences also. Therefore it is essential that we continue to support the extra curriculars such as athletics, music, arts, drama, technical skills etc. We need to support the whole child at each level of the educational process.

Do you have concerns about school funding? Please explain.

"Seek to understand"- I think every school in WI has concerns about funding, it is why we need to be sure we are being fiscally responsible in the manners in which we spend those funds. That being said, operational expenses for school districts are far more expansive than most people realize. It's also why we need school board members who ask questions to gain that understanding.

What has inspired you to run for this office?

My inspiration to serve is my passion for our children's future and the opportunity to receive a great education. I am also passionate about the value of our educators, families and stakeholders. I have loved our school district and community for over 40 years.

What qualifications and experiences do you have that prepare you for the local Board of Education?

I have an abundance of life experiences. I listen and learn from others and make decisions based on data, research and going to those who know. I am only interested in providing the best education experience for the whole child.

What should be the priorities for your district? Please explain.

Providing the best educational experience and co-circular opportunities for our students while being fiscally responsible to our stakeholders. Hiring and retaining the best educators. Growing our district in a positive way relying on data and best practices.

Do you have concerns about school funding? Please explain.

I have been concerned about public school funding since my school board service began in 2018 as I gained more knowledge about how the public schools are funded. The public school funding is inequitable to other parental choice options. There have been a record number of school districts forced to go to referendum primarily to meet operational needs. The School District of Tomahawk is no exception. Any successful community has a well funded school. I would like to see the breakdown of stakeholders taxes by Private Voucher Schools, Charter Schools and the Public School on the property tax statement rather than just lump those tax dollars under the School District Tax only. How can a dollar value be less per student for public school students than other parental choice programs?
