Please describe two or three of your priorities, if elected, and how you will address those issues.

One of my priorities would be the transition of the Human Services Center to a Human/Social Services Department. This will enhance the quality of services to Oneida County residences and will be overseen by a committee of jurisdiction with the elected county officials. As far as addressing these issues, it is currently underway to have a transition with information provided by a county consultant. I would ensure that proper legislation is brought forth for consideration by the committee with final approval of the Oneida County Board. As this transition moves forward, the committee of jurisdiction must analyze data to ensure that the transition is moving forward, with the best interest of the public for careful consideration.

As a committee member, one of my priorities would be to analyze information as it becomes available related to budget, services provided, need for services, and adherence that the services provided are provided in the best interest of public users.

How should the county board address their responsibilities with regard to health and human services?

Health and Human Services are two different departments. Human Services currently is its own entity, which services three counties to include Oneida, Vilas, and Forest Counties. This past year all three counties chose not to continue their contract through this unit of government as there were numerous problems associated with the services provided. Currently the counties are determining how to provide a higher quality of services to the citizens. This was a very good move by all counties involved which includes oversite of County Government of each County Board to ensure that the best possible services are given to the people that require these services. Services in this area are behavioral health (mental health, substance use) services, developmental disability services for children, child protection and child/family welfare services, juvenile justice services, adult protective services, and income maintenance. Health Services are provided through the Oneida County Health Departm

Please rank the three most important environmental issues the county is facing? Please explain why.

The most important environmental issue facing Oneida County at this time is Biosolids that have been located in drinking water in areas of the county that received sludge spread during previous years. The reason behind this is that drinking water is the number one source for everything we do. The second most important environmental issue facing Oneida County is the spread of invasive species. This can have devastating effects on lakes and streams in which Oneida County is rich with many. I believe that the lakes associations are doing a good job in containing its spread, however we must continue this path as well as looking at further science to assist in the removal of these species. The third most important environmental issue would be hopefully a short-term problem but an important one. With the lack of precipitation and abnormally dry conditions this past winter there could be an increase in forest fires in the area.

What do you consider the most important aspects of local infrastructure and how should federal funding be allocated?

The most important aspect of local infrastructure related to federal funding would be road infrastructure. The road infrastructure throughout Oneida County has not been kept up, which has been related to funding sources and the high costs of road repair and replacing existing roads. We must as a county continue to look at state and federal grant funding that comes available and continue to lobby for these funding opportunities.

How can the county board and individual supervisors take advantage of new avenues of communication with the community?

o I believe that the county board does a good job in this area, however communication is an essential part of good government and therefore should continue to be improved upon. Supervisors should be available via email and telephone. The county board currently utilizes zoom meetings for county board meetings. This allows people the ability to attend meetings and still be involved in local government. There are issues associated with zoom in which the feed does function properly, and as further technological advances occur this will continue to enhance information sharing with the public.
