An Ozaukee County supervisor serves a term of two years. Each district elects one supervisor. What does the County Board of Supervisors do? The County Board of Supervisors play a pivotal role in county government across the state. The county board of supervisors approves how tax dollars are spent when they approve the county budget. They also pass county resolutions and ordinances (local laws) and establish programs and public services for the county. Why does this matter? As county policy makers, the county board of supervisors determine what county services and programs get funded and which ones do not. Their decisions impact many issues in the county they serve including: public health, housing, public safety including county jails and juvenile justice services, child welfare services, transportation, planning and zoning, and more. As elected officials, county board supervisors are held accountable by voters in their community.

Why do you want to be an Ozaukee County Board Supervisor, and what qualifications and experience make you the best candidate?

I am running for County Supervisor because there are many important issues the county will be facing in the future that need to have leadership that is proactive rather than reactive. As I read the accounts of the board meetings I don't see a collaborative effort to solve problems. Instead, I see rigid stances that do not help the residents of the community. For the past five years, I have been the 4th District Alderman for the City of Mequon. In addition, I serve on the Public Works Committee and am currently the Secretary for the Frank L. Weyenberg Library Board which serves both Mequon and Thiensville. In my time serving Mequon residents as Alderman, the council has made a concerted effort to work together and become more strategically planning for the future. One result of this effort was the formation of the Southern Ozaukee Fire Department. This resulted in a department that can meet the needs of both communities for the future. Working together means problems get solved.

What are the most important issues facing Ozaukee County and how will you address them?

The most pressing issue that is facing Ozaukee County is sustained funding to meet the needs of the community. Just recently this took center stage on how to fund the county fire departments. Municipalities were promised funding at one level and then it was reduced to the dismay of local departments. This decision could have unintended consequences for keeping community members safe. The problem the county faces stems from a lack of funding at the state level. The funding formula needs to be reevaluated to reflect the current conditions that are faced by current municipalities. The county must reach out to our state representatives to educate them about the difficult choices elected officials go through trying to meet the needs of the community. Funding from the state has not kept up with the needs and challenges the county must tackle. Residents are at risk and their quality of life diminished if state funding does not change.

How will you keep your constituents informed of the issues and actions of the County Board?

To keep constituents informed of the issues and actions of the County Board I would create a biweekly newsletter that can be sent out to all residents through email. This will give brief information about agenda items and topics that are coming up. In addition, I would like to hold monthly office hours at the library for those who would like to meet face-to-face.

Why do you want to be an Ozaukee County Board Supervisor, and what qualifications and experience make you the best candidate?

I am running because I just want to help in any way I can. As a successful entrepreneur founded here in Wisconsin I am grateful to have the time to serve. I have three kids going to elementary school in my District so I have a vested interest as well. I am running to keep helping Ozaukee County on becoming a better place to live, work and play.

What are the most important issues facing Ozaukee County and how will you address them?

Ozaukee County is already a really well run administration reflected by my experience from the past two years as County Board Supervisor. I served on the Public Safety committee and we were able to add a $2.5 million training and storage facility to help with the functions of the Justice Department. We also voted to add 23 EMS responders in the County and a new dispatch center to facilitate all of our municipalities with better response times. I promise to keep making common sense decisions that are presented to the board.

How will you keep your constituents informed of the issues and actions of the County Board?

I am very active in my neighborhood and community. I am well connected whether it's through business owners that work with me, coaching my son's baseball and football teams, and attending all of the other activities my girls are in. I believe a major function of the supervisor role is to know what is going on in the county and being able to inform others. My job is to have an interest in the county issues and understand them. I also believe it's important to know what my constituents interests are as well.
