Public Service Commissioners District 1 Choose 1

6-year term, $75,000The Public Service Commission is a constitutionally created executive body comprised of five seats including one chairperson. This commission is responsible for regulating telecommunications carriers, natural gas jurisdictional utilities, major oil pipelines, railroad safety, household goods movers and passenger carriers, grain warehouses and dealers, construction of manufactured and modular homes and recreational vehicles, high-voltage electric transmission lines, and private water company rates. The Commission also oversees and administers the Nebraska Universal Service Fund the Enhanced Wireless 911 Fund, and the Nebraska Telecommunications Relay System Fund

What are the most important challenges facing our state public services, and how do you propose to address them?

Ensuring stable 911 System network. Need to complete the transition to the Next Generation 911 Network. Supporting new Telecommunication services and maintaining existing. Regulation of safe/reliable transportation services all across the State. Supporting the Ag industry with thorough inspections of Dealers and Warehouse across the State.

How can the PSC better enforce rail safety in Nebraska?

Continuing to monitoring of Rail crossing concerns. Implementing added Track/Rail inspectors.

What is the status of the state’s goal to expand broadband access in underserved areas?

Managing the added support from the Nebraska Bridge Act, Capital Funds and the Nebraska Universal Service Fund in concert with Federal funds. Joint effort with the Nebraska Broadband office to coordinate both the Fed/State funds to reach the unserved as a priority.
