How have your training, professional experience, and interests prepared you to serve as a member of Congress?

I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to run for Congress, and that Congress should be made up of people from all walks of life. Growing up below the poverty line, I never felt like I had representatives who really understood what I was going through. So I would like to be a voice for kids like me.

Beyond that, I am a small business owner so I understand the needs of businesses in our district. In particular, I am well versed in creating ethical AI, which will be important as AI is becoming an increasingly important part of our lives. And I'm a mom, which means I understand what mothers and children in our state need.

What are the three priority issues for your District that you will address during your term of office? Please specify how you will do this.

Alabama has the highest maternal mortality rate in the nation, which is shameful for our state and terrifying for moms who deliver babies here. In particular, 6 of the 8 counties in our district are considered either maternal health care deserts, or as having low access to maternal healthcare. I want to push for federal legislation to expand maternal and child healthcare programs so that we can better support moms and babies. Of course this includes codifying abortion, birth control, and child care access at a federal level.

I also want to expand poverty reduction and safety net programs to help people in need, improve workers' rights, create green jobs, improve education, and eliminate censorship.

What is your top environmental priority? Please explain your reasoning and outline how you would address this issue.

Pollution is a major problem, and we shouldn't let it go unchecked. Like any problem, there are two ways to address it: deterrence and incentives.

To deter the problem, I'd like to see carbon taxes and penalties for companies polluting our environment the most. The carbon tax should begin low so as not to shock the economy, but then gradually increase until we’re sufficiently off of fossil fuels. Revenue from these taxes can go towards improvements for all citizens, like infrastructure improvements.

To incentivize people to improve the problem, I'd like to see tax credits for companies who are part of the solution, and tax credits for individuals who support green technologies (especially domestically!). The market for clean energy will immediately grow, prompting the creation of new “green” jobs and new clean economy.

I'd like to see a win/win plan where everybody benefits: individuals, companies, the economy, and the Earth.

In addition to sending out a newsletter, how do you plan to stay connected to your constituents once you are elected?

One of the most important roles of the House of Representatives is its members' responsiveness to and responsibility to the people. As a constituent myself, I have always written to and called my own elected representatives.... but responses were rare. I will always try to be responsive to constituents who take their time to reach out, and plan to continue attending and holding events in my own district so that I can interact one-on-one with constituents. It's always important to hear everyone's voices.

What is your top economic priority? Please explain your reasoning and outline how you would address this issue.

Just like everybody else, my weekly grocery store visits have gotten increasingly painful over the past few years. With inflation and prices rising dramatically, wages stagnating, and housing pricing skyrocketing... all of us everyday folks are feeling the economic crunch. I'd like to see an emphasis on ensuring that everyone can put a roof over their heads and food on the table. This would include expanded federal benefits, affordable housing, an increased federal minimum wage, and other policy measures to help reduce the gap between what things cost and what people can afford.

This is where people typically ask how we'll pay for all of that. My answer is that we already are. Most of us are already paying taxes, and those tax dollars should be used to benefit real people in tangible ways.

List your top 3 criteria for the United States' continuing military involvement and presence in other regions of the world. In what areas (infrastructure improvements, tourism, etc.) would you seek federal dollars to benefit your District?

My criteria for military involvement in other countries is that this involvement must (1) truly benefit the people of that country and actually be welcomed by them, (2) result in zero civilian casualties, and (3) genuinely result in a net positive for our country and the other country involved. These may be big, idealistic goals... but I challenge others to think about how we can live in a world where our tax dollars can create good in the world without civilian deaths. I believe in humanitarian aid and I never want to see another innocent person die as a result of war.
