Biographical Information
Training and Experience
I have been a teacher in the Lisbon School District for forty years.
Volunteer/Community Service
I have been an active member of the Lisbon Teachers’ Union. I served as the Leetonia Levy Chairperson from 2007 to 2010. I was elected to the Leetonia School Board for two four-year terms from 2015 to 2023.
What are your top priorities and how will you address them?
My top priorities include education, health and safety. These can be achieved through the combined efforts and cooperation of all our elected officials.
What changes do you support or oppose to voting and elections policy?
I support early voting. I support making access to voting easier. I am opposed to restrictive voter ID laws and efforts that discourage anyone from voting.
How should government bring economic and job opportunities to Ohio?
Can we begin with the fact that what we have been doing isn’t working? More than 1.5 million people in Ohio live in poverty. Ohio’s child food-insecurity rate is the fourteenth highest in the nation. What we need to do: We need to do more to promote unions. We need to see that all Ohio workers have access to paid sick leave. We need to fund quality child care.
What are your aspirations for K-12 and higher education?
Education should be our major concern; if our children and grandchildren are to thrive in the twenty-first, we need to provide them with the necessary educational tools. Of course we need smaller classrooms and higher teacher pay; but, we also need to stop social promotions, demand greater parental accountability, commit to reading and math at all levels, and promote higher education.
Under what circumstances should the state support or check local government?
The state should intercede in local government when the circumstances are so overwhelming that something substantial needs to be done. The East Palestine train derailment is a prime example; the state of Ohio helped assist the local government in caring for their citizens.
State your position on healthcare policy.
I support women’s health, including reproductive choice. I support access to affordable healthcare for everyone.
State your position on environmental policy and natural resource management?
Climate change is real and the sooner we admit it and begin to do something about it, the better off we will be. “Natural Resource Management” should be just that: Managing our resources as we transition into more renewable forms of energy.
What role, if any, should government take to ensure no person is discriminated against?
Ohio’s conservative judges and legislators have been slowly eroding the rights of women and minorities by weakening protections in hiring and in voting. This is antithetical to the role of government. I will work to be a check on those who discriminate.
