What are your top three priorities if elected to this office?

1.) Standing up for public education and our democracy: for my students, their families, and our community.

2.) Protecting reproductive rights: we must codify the protections of Roe v. Wade into law.

3.) Ensuring no community is left behind, no rural community, town, or city: our communities need investments to grow our economy; strengthen public education, college access, technical schools, and job training; address our rural healthcare crisis; and invest in our infrastructure.

How will you ensure the concerns of the local community are heard and addressed at the national level?

Addressing the issues of my district in DC first requires a lot of listening. Since beginning this campaign, I have driven over 20,000 miles across the 14 counties of TX-27 to speak with voters. I will continue to use the skills I've developed as a teacher and as a mom to connect with our district’s diverse rural communities, towns, & cities to hear the issues of TX-27. I will also speak from my life experience deeply rooted in our community. Using all this knowledge to amend legislation/conduct oversight grounded in our district’s insights, needs, & values. Lastly, I will focus on building "big tent" coalitions including organizations across the district to forge consensus and drive support for key legislation.

How will you work with members from different political parties to find common ground on important issues?

I was a lifelong Republican voter, and that is the community I grew up in. I left the Republican Party over attacks on women’s reproductive rights and on public education. That said, I know from recent examples that there are many important issues where I can find common ground with Republicans in Congress. Examples include the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that is bringing $300M+ of investment to our district, the CHIPS and Science ACT bringing billions of dollars to Texas for domestic semiconductor manufacturing, and the PACT Act which provides healthcare benefits to veterans exposed to toxic burn pits. It’s a shame that Michael Cloud voted against all of these crucial investments.
