Why are you the best candidate for this position? (750 characters)
With the redevelopment of the Les Bolstad Golf Course, Falcon Heights is at a crossroads—facing decisions that will shape our city for years to come. I bring 25 years of experience as a real estate and environmental lawyer, working with cities and counties on housing, infrastructure, finance, and protecting our natural resources. I’ve partnered with developers—and pushed back when needed—to make sure projects serve the community, not just monied interests. That experience, combined with four years of service on the Planning Commission, uniquely prepares me to help guide responsible values-driven development, protect the character of our neighborhoods, foster a strong tax base, and ensure a vibrant, sustainable future for our city.
If elected, what will your top three priorities be and why? (500 characters)
Putting in place the tools to create lifecycle housing that is truly affordable so residents of all ages and stages - both existing and new - can find a home; promoting environmentally sustainable development that allows the city to grow thoughtfully while reducing the tax burden for residents; and maintaining and enhancing quality parks and green spaces that connect neighborhoods, provide accessible recreation, and preserve the character and livability of Falcon Heights for everyone.
How do you plan to engage with and represent all members of our diverse community?(500 characters)
I follow the lessons of Paul Wellstone: We all do better, when we all do better. I will engage with all members of our community by listening actively, seeking input from residents of every background, and ensuring all voices are heard in decision-making. My goal is to ensure policies and development reflect the needs and values of all corners of our City while fostering an inclusive, welcoming, and connected Falcon Heights.
What steps will you take to ensure transparency and accountability in city government? (500 characters)
To ensure accountability, City Council decisions must be open and transparent. Residents should have access to the information that informs Council decisions, be able to observe deliberations by individual members and understand how decisions are reached, and view and record the final vote of their representatives. Transparency in these processes builds trust and allows the community to hold its elected officials responsible for their actions.
