Relevant Experience I have 11 years of experience as an Executive Director of a non-profit organization. I also owned my own business and have served in managerial roles for over 20 years. I served on several board of directors, government and organizartional committees including President of the Wisconsin Council for Local History and Chair of the City of Sheboygan's Historic Preservation Commission. I currently am a member of the Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council.

What do you see as the top issue facing county businesses in recruiting and retaining staff, and how do you believe it should be rectified?

I think housing is a major issue with recruitment and retaining staff. As our community is welcoming people from outside the area we must make sure there is enough housing within a close radius to support our new county residents. I feel a combination of government and business approach is the best option. County government can aid our local businesses in finding areas for development that will not cause environmental issues and still provide great land for residential development. Our County government can provide a path for developers to grow our housing numbers. We have a great community and we should do everything we can to make sure our new residents do not have to commute an hour or more to work for our great county businesses.

Should county government take an active role in sustaining and growing tourism, and, if so, what initiatives can the County take?

I believe they should. Tourism is a growing industry in our county because we have so much to offer. From the beauty of Lake Michigan and the Kettle Moraine area to our great hospitality offerings, I believe we have room to grow our tourism. I think the County could collaborate with Visit Sheboygan and other community tourism bureaus or chambers of commerce to help promote all the great things we have in Sheboygan County. We could look into financial support offered through grants and other avenues that help with promoting tourism. We can continue to work with other organizations like Discover Wisconsin to promote our area and we can look into promotional opportunities in our neighboring states.

Discuss your experience and how it qualifies you for the position you seek.

I have 11 years of experience as a non-profit organization executive director. In that role I was responsible for budgets, staffing, day-to-day management and promotion of the organization. Through the position, I came in regular contact with county employees, department chairs, and county board supervisors. I received a first-hand experience with the operations of the county government. From the employee on the streets to the county administrator, I learned how the process works. As an executive director, my primary goal was to achieve a high level of success using limited resources. I also gained experience with researching and finding funding through many avenues. This would help me in maintaining the county's great financial standing and also finding funding for new projects. I also have many years of for profit ownership and management which has given me a deeper understanding of business. I can use my experiences to help bridge the gap between government and business and work to come up with the best solution to any problem that may occur.

Why are you running for office?

I am running because I believe my experience and knowledge can be beneficial to our community. I was born and raised in Sheboygan and have a deep understanding of our communities because of it. I also believe change is good. As an educated historian, I know how to use our past to make our future better. We got to the place we are at because of our past. I believe by continuing to honor our past we can develop responsible plans to develop a better future. What we do today does not only affect us, but it affects everyone who comes after us.

Cite major goals you want to accomplish if elected and how you plan to achieve those goals.

I want to make a career with the county an honored and respected career. Happy employees leads to positive outcomes. I would meet with department chairs, the HR director and staff members to find out what causes negativity and develop plans to foster pride in the job.
