What do you see as the top issue facing county businesses in recruiting and retaining staff, and how do you believe it should be rectified?

Since Sheboygan County's unemployment rate is so low, many open jobs will need to be filled by people from outside the area. The challenge with this is that our available housing stock is also low. So one of the issues that needs to be addressed is that new housing needs to be built so that people do not have to drive an hour to get to a job. Any new housing could also be available to current area residents that want a newer place, making their current place available to someone moving into the area. Another issue that needs to be addressed is the lack of available spots with child care providers. Families with young children need quality child care when they go to work, especially if they relocate to an area in which they do not have other family members to help provide support.

Should county government take an active role in sustaining and growing tourism, and, if so, what initiatives can the County take?

Sheboygan County has a number of quality venues to draw in tourists from outside the area. I feel Sheboygan County governments role is to maintain quality infrastructure and services so that we don't become a reason for people to avoid the area.

Discuss your experience and how it qualifies you for the position you seek.

I was employed by the Sheboygan Fire Department for 30 years, retiring as an Assistant Chief. I have been on the County Board for 16 years. I have been on different committees including the Health and Human Services Committee, Law Committee, Finance Committee, Executive Committee, and 4 years as the Chair of the Board. I also attend different Wisconsin Counties Association events to keep up to date with issues in other counties in the state.

Why are you running for office?

I am running for re-election because I feel the Sheboygan County Board has done a good job over the last decade serving the needs of the community. Times change and I believe the Board has addressed many of the new challenges it faced. There are still areas that need to be addressed and I am looking forward to working with Sheboygan County staff to find solutions.

Cite major goals you want to accomplish if elected and how you plan to achieve those goals.

Nationwide, Fire and Emergency Medical Services are suffering issues with recruitment of members and funding. Although Sheboygan County government doesn't directly provide these services, every resident and visitor in the county can be impacted if the services are struggling. So Sheboygan County has funded a study from and outside vendor to see if there are actions that can be taken in our communities to help lessen, or even mitigate, the problem here. I am eager to see the results of the study and hope to be a part of implementing some of its recommendations.
