What draws you at this time to run for this position?

I believe the County is making strides in addressing issues that matter to our community. I want to continue to be a part of making positive change and considering the viewpoints of folks in our county who haven't previously been heard. I'm very proud of the Bridge Housing initiatives, the City/ County collaboration to achieve functional zero in regards to homelessness, and the work underway in making Hillview a better, more efficient and up to date facility to meet the needs of our senior neighbors.

What resources would you like to see at the county level that would benefit your district?

I'd like to see the work on housing continue-both for those currently facing homelessness and for the prevention of homelessness. Continuing to look at ways to make housing affordable for our families is vital. I also would like to see the economic development and neighborhood revitalization grants continue to help my neighbors in improving and updating their homes as well as in starting new businesses.

What in your opinion are the top two issues facing La Crosse County?

I think affordable housing and childcare are the top two issues for the folks I talk with in my district. Obviously, these are complicated and challenging issues nationally, so while I don't think the County is necessarily the only answer to these problems, I do want us to continue to find ways to help improve things for our community. I think the grants to childcare providers is one positive step, as is the work being done on preventing the loss of housing for people and the supportive Bridge Housing for those who are making strides toward independent living.

How would you most effectively address the issues you identified in the previous question?

Honestly, I think voting to fully fund these programs and supporting staff in their day to day work on these issues are the most effective ways to help from my role as a Supervisor. I also believe listening to our community when they share their top challenges or when they have ideas for solutions is key as well. As we consider policy and budgets for the work surrounding these matters, I want to hear from both those with lived experiences as well as those who are working every day in our County departments so I can make decisions that are based on real needs and not opinions or simply the loudest voices in the room.
