What draws you at this time to run for this position?

I’ve lived and raised my family in La Crosse County for over 28 years. I’m driven to serve because I want my kids and grandkids to have a thriving community to raise their families. I also want to be an example for them, showing them that through public service we can make positive change.

As a former marketing consultant for small businesses and a small business owner, I had to be a careful steward of budgets while developing innovative solutions for business growth. I think that background is exactly what the County Board needs to find new solutions while holding the line on taxes. I've also advocated for those in need: I’ve supported victims of domestic violence; I’ve served the school district through Holmen’s Student Achievement and Learning Committee; and I’m a current member of the County’s Neighborhood Revitalization Grant Review Committee. I'm most proud of the organizing work I've done in pursuit of better, more affordable healthcare.

What resources would you like to see at the county level that would benefit your district?

Being a careful steward of public funds, I want to make sure that resources are distributed fairly throughout the County. Some services, including key healthcare and mental health initiatives, are only available for City of La Crosse residents. I want to make sure that smaller towns and rural areas are able to take advantage of these services as well.

Roads should be a priority, too. They are critical infrastructure, especially in rural areas. That said, Board members need to be honest stewards of public funds. The County can only do so much roadwork in a given year due to equipment, staffing, scheduling, and seasonal considerations. In the last budget process, some Supervisors pushed for more road money than realistically could be spent. Allocating money that can't get spent in a budget cycle is political, not responsible. I promise to listen to the County’s road experts and allocate as much money as possible to fix our roads while also being fiscally responsible.

What in your opinion are the top two issues facing La Crosse County?

As a County Board Supervisor, I would take a balanced approach that emphasizes fiscal responsibility alongside the enhancement of essential community services. I am dedicated to addressing the urgent need for improved childcare services throughout the County. Families are struggling because of a lack of affordable childcare. That includes some parents foregoing work because it’s more economical to be a stay-at-home caregiver.

Additionally, La Crosse County implemented a climate plan in 2022. While it focuses on sustainability, it lacks specific and measurable benchmarks. The 2020 resolution to transition the County to 100% renewable energy by 2050 is similarly vague. I am committed to working with other Supervisors and staff to translate this vision into concrete steps. The County should be leading the clean energy transition to make sure we maximize its opportunities. We also know that it will reduce the consumption of resources while increasing efficiencies, which save tax dollars.

How would you most effectively address the issues you identified in the previous question?

The La Crosse County Board has taken an innovative approach with their plans to renovate Hillview Healthcare Center and include an intergenerational daycare center. Centers like this are forward-looking, not only addressing our ever-growing need to care for children and aging adults but also sharing infrastructure for efficiency. Interactions between the two generations have been shown to be mutually beneficial as well. As a Board member, I will work to implement innovative daycare models like this in other parts of the County.

To address issues of sustainability, I will build strong relationships with other Supervisors, County staff, and community stakeholders, just like I do in my work with Citizen Action of Wisconsin. There I routinely work with local municipalities and school districts to implement comprehensive climate action plans. If elected, I will continue this work at the County level, driving toward clear sustainability benchmarks and a healthier environment.
